Microsoft 365 Business Basic is aimed at businesses that primarily want to operate cost-effectively and do not have high requirements for Microsoft’s internal security, as the relevant security measures are provided elsewhere. Microsoft Basic: web- and mobile-based Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), business email with Exchange, Teams collaboration, SharePoint and 1 TB of OneDrive storage – no installable desktop apps or advanced management/security features. This may well be sufficient for your needs. In our experience, this may be suitable for some of your users, whilst others may opt for different plans. That is also a possibility.
Microsoft 365 Business 
Microsoft 365 Business Premium includes everything from the Standard plan plus advanced security and device management features (e.g. Microsoft Defender, Intune, identity and access management). This enables organisations to better protect data and manage endpoints centrally. Premium is the right choice when security, compliance and management go beyond standard productivity tools. Such organisations include:

• Companies with multiple locations and mobile staff

When devices and data are used outside a central network, Premium enhances security through centrally managed device and app management (Intune), MFA and protection against data leakage.

• Public-sector organisations

Government bodies, local authorities, educational institutions and public-law bodies (AöR) often have stringent compliance, archiving and security requirements. For these organisations, Premium is generally the more suitable option due to its enhanced protection and governance features.

• Organisations with high requirements for identity and access management

Where multi-factor authentication (MFA), conditional access, single sign-on (SSO) and protection against compromised credentials are important, M365 Premium offers clear advantages.
